I passionately believe that the level of our fulfilment is proportional to the quality of conscious altruistic contribution we make into the lives of others. In what ever, we do – be it through charitable causes, preaching, business, sports, education, working, or raising children – our success is determined by how willing are we in doing our best to serve others.
Heaven measures the quality of giving (love) not by how much leaves our hands but by how much is left. This is what Jesus implied in the scenario narrated in the gospel of Mark 12:41-44.
“Sitting across from the offering box, he was observing how the crowd tossed money in for the collection. Many of the rich were making large contributions. One poor widow came up and put in two small coins-a measly two cents. Jesus called his disciples over and said, “The truth is that this poor widow gave more to the collection than all the others put together. All the others gave what they’ll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford- she gave her all.”
God does not expect us to give what we don’t have, but He expects us to give our best shot. He Himself had only one son – Jesus and gave Him to save the world. God does not expect any less from us. Indeed, as scripture say, to him that much is given much is required.
I understand sometimes our best might not be good enough to some people. We live in a world that is full of folks that are difficult to please, no matter how hard you try you will never meet their standard. But the good news is that God our ultimate adjudicator and paymaster is always watching in secret and He will reward you accordingly.
Do you feel as if your efforts have been overlooked or your sacrifices have been unappreciated? God’s word to you is to keep on doing your best as if you are doing it unto Him- the Lord and you will get your due reward just at the right time. Again God says to you, “don’t give up, your pay day is coming!”
