STRENGTH IN DARK-TIMES

We  love to hate pain, don’t we?  Unfortunately though, as this pandemic has reminded us, adversity is a reality of life. As much as we dislike them tough times do fall on us all, at times without fault of our own and without warning.

Take for example corona virus pandemic. COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our way of life and most of us are struggling to adjust to these new realities.

Although all of us will go through adversity not all of us are ready to handle them. Consequently, when problems strike many of us allow our hearts to be broken and slip into depression.

I am not blaming any one for not being able to cope with issues of life because, as you might have read about me I have had a fair share of hard knocks myself.

Personal experience – now informed by science – has shown me two important things. Firstly, although adversity is inevitable emotional trauma does not need to be. The second thing is that mental resilience does not come naturally at birth, it is learned and enhanced. We all can learn how to exercise our powers to control how we feel, not only about the current pandemic , but also about whatever life throws at us in the future. If a person with basic mental skills like me can learn to be more resilient anyone can.

This is our main objective  – to help you learn how to develop mental resilience.

Emotional resilience involves perceptional and cognitive developmental domains, but our discussion will be filtered through the lens of moral development. With help from the most prominent moral development theorists like Piaget and Kohlberg, we will see how we can enhance our ability, not only to survive but also to thrive.

To start with, let us see the importance of mental resilience.
